    Dear Parents/Carers,

Rights of the child : November - Article 19

    Right to be safe

Christmas has now officially arrived in Penclawdd. The main hall tree is up and it looks beautiful, we can`t wait for you to see it. We`d like to say a special thanks to a local florist - `Handtied by Hollie` for making our gorgeous Christmas swags - we love them! See picture below.

Attendance - EVERY school day counts

Unfortunately our whole school attendance is still below 94%. All schools’ attendance is now being closely monitored by the LA . Our EWO - Lyndsay Jenkins( Education Welfare Officer) who visits our cluster schools every 3 weeks looks at lateness , persistent absences and holiday requests.

Please make every effort to not take holidays during term time to ensure your child does not miss important learning time .

Following a discussion with Governors ,this week we have sent home information letters to notify parents if their child`s attendance is below 90%.

Please take a look at the table below which illustrates how much learning is lost when a child is absent.

Annual Attendance Amount of learning time lost

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Rights of the child : November - Article 19

    Right to be safe

It's been a busy and productive week in all classes with lots of exciting things happening. Our choir were super at the Rememberance Service last week. They braved the torrential rain to sing their hearts out. Thanks to Mrs D and Mr M for attending. Please click here.

We had some amazing news this week as we received a beautiful card from King Charles III and Queen Camilla, who wrote to Ruby, Sully and Zac to thank them for their wonderful coronation postcards! - see pics below.

    CIN 2023

Today, we celebrated our talented children by holding a talent competition in aid of Children in Need. Due to our generous parents/carers we have raised an amazing £126 so far! WOW! Thanks.

The PLTD and Mrs Garcia have worked very hard coordinating this great event and the judges had such a difficult job to choose winners. Well done !

Please see photos below!  The atmosphere in the school hall was tremendous as children cheered on their friends and were entertained! Many thanks also to our Friends of Penclawdd who helped serve popcorn to everyone.

    Nursery Penguins

Our Nursery class welcomed the Emergency Services to school as they learnt about people who help us.  The morning was a huge success as children learnt about the Police, Ambulance and Fire Services. They had the opportunity to try on helmets, ring bells and even learnt to use a fire hose.  What a wonderful learning experience for our youngest learners.  See some pics below

    Social media

It has been brought to my attention that some pupils in Y4,5 and Y6 have set up Whatsapp groups and are apparently using inappropriate language .

Please can I remind parents/carers the school asserts the following guidance:β€―

    *β€―The minimum age to use WhatsApp’s is 16 +.

    * Pupils should NOT be adding contacts and creating groups for the purposes ofβ€―sharing offensive posts with pupils.β€―

    * Passing on offensive material is considered legally to be on a par with initiating it.

    * Making multiple groups/ multiple Admins is inadvisable at best.β€―

*Should parents feel that their child is emotionally responsible enough to use appsβ€―such as WhatsApp, Facebook and games like Fortnite etc, despite being considerably underage, we advise that youβ€―discuss this with your child and agree boundaries.β€―

Please be assured that your child’sβ€―emotional well- being is important to usβ€―and weβ€―are keen to work in partnership with parents on a range of digital concerns. During the year several E-safety lessons are taught and in addition the school police service has a teaching programme including such topics . β€―

    However:

    Our key messageβ€―

Whilst we are duty bound to pass on any offensive material that is shared with us,β€―our role is NOT to police the use ofβ€―Socialβ€―Mediaβ€―amongst pupils outside school.”

Attendance  - LA Educational Welfare Officer - EWO

All schools’ attendance is now being closely monitored by the LA . Our EWO - Lyndsay Jenkins( Education Welfare Officer) who visits our cluster schools every 3 weeks will look at lateness , persistent absences and holiday requests. Pre Covid our attendance was excellent and was 95%. In 2022-23 it was 93.4%. Our attendance target this year is 94% and the LA monitor this closely. Please make every effort to not take holidays during term time to ensure your child does not miss important learning time .

Don’t be Late Through the Gate!

We are sadly seeing a rise in some children being late for school every day.

School starts at 8.50 am. Being late on a regular basis adds up to a loss of learning time. Please make every effort for your child to be on time.

    • 5 Mins late every day   = 3.4 days of learning lost every year
    • 10 mins late every day =6.9 days of learning lost every year
    • 15 mins late every day = 10.3 days of learning lost every year
    • 20 mins late every day =13.8 days of learning lost every year
    • 30 mins late every day =20.7 days of learning lost every day

    Fri 15 Sep 2023 Mrs R-M

    Dear Parents/Carers,

It's been a busy week and I'm sure many children will be feeling tired after completing their first full week in school.

I have visited many classes and I am happy to report that children have settled in well and are having fun and  working hard!

Our school educational visits are going well, and are great way of introducing a new topic and new learning to the class as well as bringing the outdoor classroom to life! Being away from school also helps develop children's confidence as they are taken `out of their comfort zone`.

Please keep an eye out for photographs on twitter to see what other classes have been up to, as well as your own childs.

    Ipay

I pay is now up and running and we hope that our teething problems have been rectified.  Many thanks to Mrs. Beynon whose patience was tested!

Just to remind you - Rec - Y3 are entitled to free school lunches.  It is advisable that everyone creates an ipay account so that trips/breakfast club etc can be paid for in this way. If you need any help please contact the school office. Thanks

Supporting this cause helps us to achieve our fundraising goals as well as diverting textiles from landfill at the same time.

    What happens to the clothes?

Well, once your clothes are loaded onto our van they start a journey that could take them to any corner of the world. Different items will be more likely to end up in different climates – one thing all the clothes do have in common is that they are going to a place where they will provide affordable clothing to people who need it
