Summer 2024

Topic

We’ve made a great start to our topic, the Romans are coming! We’ve completed our EPIC planning and started independent missions. So far, we’ve learnt about the spread of the Roman Empire, Roman houses and designed our own Roman coins. After half term, we’re going on a trip to Caerleon to visit the Roman museum.

Numeracy

In our Numeracy lessons this term, we learnt more about fractions and decimals. We also learnt about mass and how to read scales.

We enjoyed finding fractions of different types of leaves in our Forest School lesson.

Literacy

We have loved reading the book ‘The King Who Banned the Dark’ by Emily Haworth-Brown. For this wok, we’ve written letters, held a discussion about whether or not the dark should be banned and written our own stories. We also wrote and performed our own poetry.

Health and well-being week

This half term, the whole class took part in health and well-being week. Year 3 learnt about being a good friend, self esteem and the importance of hand washing. Year 4 learnt about family and friendship, showing kindness and love and new arrivals to a family.

Summer Term 2

We’ve had an amazing last half term in  Year 3/4

Literacy

This term, we’ve linked our literacy work to our topic on the Romans. We’ve taken part in a debate to discuss whether or not the Celts should have allowed the Romans to stay in Britain. We then wrote a discussion text about it. We found out that the Romans did lots of things for the Celts but they also weren’t very nice to them.

Numeracy

We’ve been learning about lots of things in our Numeracy lessons this half term. We’ve learnt about mass, capacity, temperature, money, time, graphs and shapes!

Topic

We started the half term with an amazing trip to Caerleon to visit the Roman Museum, Baths and Amphitheatre. We also got to try on Roman armour and saw where soldiers would have slept. Before coming home, we were recruited into the Roman army. We learnt some key battle commands and how to form the testudo!

Once we had mastered these moves, we put them into practice. First, we researched Roman shields and then designed and made our own. We took them to the ancient hill fort above Penclawdd and re-enacted a Roman takeover.

We’ve also enjoyed taking part in Sports Day this term. Gwynor were the winning team, congratulations! 🤍
