Penclawdd Primary School Mini London Marathon
This week led by our Healthy Heroes our children from N-Y6 had the opportunity to participate in the Mini London Marathon. Classes had the choice to use the rugby field ,the yards or the gym . Each class decided on their route, calculated the number of laps and kept a count of their total. The children aimed for 2.6 miles of walking, jogging, running or 26 minutes of continuous exercise. Our younger children were able to space their mini marathon over the day, go out several times or take a few days to hit the 2.6 miles. Our Healthy Heroes, who blew the whistle ,will be sending an email to Mini London Marathon of our total number of children who have entered.

Welcome back to what will be a busy term. Let's hope the weather warms and dries up!
I am pleased to inform parents that this week we underwent a Fire Inspection. This was carried out by the Mid and West Wales Fire Service along with Health and Safety executives from the council. We had excellent feedback which is good to know, as our procedures and protocols are being adhered to, and most importantly keeping everyone safe ,should we ever have a fire.

St David's Day/Dydd Gwyl Dewi Sant
A message from Mrs D a Criw
Criw Cymraeg are excited to be launching our 'Welsh Week'. This Friday , the week will be kicked off as the children will go into their school houses to begin to plan the forthcoming week.
Next week each day the children will go to their 'house class' at 2.30pm each day to practice a poem recital, song and Twmpath dance with their 'house teacher'.
The children will be encouraged to make posters to support their house and they will also take time to work on our Welsh language skills.
On St David's Day we will host our very own 'Welsh Talent' and each house will take it in turns to share their performance with the rest of the school. Judges will be invited into school to judge the performance and the winning house will receive our Welsh trophy.
We hope the week will continue to embed our love of Wales, the language and culture and of course make memories that the children will fondly look back on. During the week each class will look at the story of St David. The children are encouraged to enter our Welsh competition ( see pic below) to gain extra points for their house - please can all entries be in to Mrs Davies by Wednesday.
Diolch! Mrs D a Criw Cymraeg.

Safer Internet Day
On Tuesday 6th February we will be joining schools and youth organisations across the UK in celebrating Safer Internet Day 2024. Safer Internet Day is a global campaign to promote the safe and responsible use of technology, which calls on young people, parents, carers, teachers, social workers, law enforcement, companies, policymakers and more, to help to create a better internet. This year the campaign will be focusing on change online, this includes covering:
• Young people’s perspective on new and emerging technology
• Using the internet to make change for the better
• The changes young people want to see online
• The things that can influence and change the way young people think, feel and act online and offline
Using the internet safely and positively is a key message that we promote in school and celebrating Safer Internet Day is a great opportunity for us to re-emphasise the online safety messages we deliver throughout the year.
We would be delighted if you could join us in celebrating the day by continuing the conversation at home. To help you with this, the UK Safer Internet Centre have created some free activities and information for parents and carers which are available at:
Whether you have 5 minutes to start a conversation or hours to spare, there are top tips, quizzes and films which you can use at home with your child. If you have any concerns or questions about keeping your child safe online, please do get in touch with your child’s class teacher or myself as our Designated Safeguarding Lead.
