Literacy - (Please bring literacy tasks into school for me to mark)
Activity 1 - Writing Task
Holiday Diary Task –
Write a daily diary about a holiday you have been or visits to places. You could even make it up and visit anywhere in the world you want!
. You could describe activities that you do, places you visit, what the weather was like
. Remember to use adjectives to describe what the places look like, how you feel
. A diary needs to be written in the past tense.
Activity 2 - Reading Task
Login to HWB and click on the Britannica School App. Click on the Foundation level and type in Wales. Answer the following questions:
. What is the capital of Wales?
. Which three main bodies of water border Wales?
. How tall is Snowdon?
. Name three animals you may find in Wales?
. What percentage of people speak Welsh?
. What is the Eisteddfod?
. What is the most popular sport in Wales?
. What is the national animal of Wales?
. Draw a picture of the flag.
You can present your information in any way you like.
Activity 3 - Oracy Task
Presentation
. Once you have completed the reading task, use the information to prepare a short presentation about Wales. You may want to have some pictures or a Powerpoint to refer to as you're speaking. You can use cue cards to help you remember what to say.
Success criteria:
- Clear, confident speaking voice.
- Expressive tone to show feelings.
- Imaginative, thoughtful answers.
Extension: Record your interview on a phone/tablet (if possible) and share on Seesaw.
Activity 4 - Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar
Punctuation
Rewrite these sentences correctly, with capital letters and full stops.
- my friend likes to read books
- we visited the beach on sunday
- i ate an apple and a banana
- he lives in cardiff
- mrs jones is our neighbour
Put full stops in the correct places.
- We went shopping after school Then we had dinner
- My brother, jason, loves dinosaurs He knows lots of facts about them
- It started to rain We ran inside quickly
Spelling
One word is spelled correctly. Copy the correct spelling, and then use it in a sentence.

Grammar – Choose the Correct Word
The children (was / were) excited about the trip.
She (was / were) first in the race.
My friends (was / were) waiting outside.
I (was / were) happy with my work.
We (was / were) ready to start the lesson.
Activity 5 - Handwriting
Read and copy the poem below in your best handwriting. Remember to size your letters correctly, space words evenly and remember to use capital letters and punctuation as you see them in the poem. You could decorate the poem when you finish if you'd like.
