Class Blog 2026-2027

Autumn term so far....

This half term has been very busy and exciting in Year 3. We have learned lots of new things and had some wonderful experiences both inside and outside the classroom.

In Literacy, we have been reading a book called The Rhythm of the Rain. We enjoyed finding out about the different characters, particularly Isaac, and following his adventures. The story helped us learn about the water cycle and inspired us to write our own poems about water. We worked hard to use exciting vocabulary and descriptive language to make our poems interesting to read.

In Numeracy, we have been developing our understanding of place value. We have practised reading, ordering and partitioning numbers. We have also been learning written methods for addition and subtraction, helping us to solve increasingly challenging calculations with confidence.

Our topic this term has been On Our Doorstep. We visited the Wetlands Centre, where we learned about plastic pollution and its impact on wildlife and the environment.

We also carried out a litter survey around Penclawdd and used our results to create graphs. As part of our local area study, we completed a housing survey and explored how our community has changed over time. We learned about the journey of a river from its source to its mouth and identified key geographical features such as tributaries, meanders and estuaries.

In Health and Well-being, we have been improving important physical skills including running, jumping, balancing and hand-eye coordination. We have also enjoyed working with Luke to learn about resilience, managing challenges and understanding our feelings. These sessions have helped us learn how to express our emotions and develop positive strategies for looking after our wellbeing.

In Welsh, we have been learning sentence patterns that help us answer questions and talk about ourselves in the first person. We are becoming more confident speaking Welsh and sharing information about our likes, dislikes and interests.

During Black History Month, we learnt about Mark Brown. He found out that he was the first Black player to play rugby for Wales. One of our favourite parts of the term was preparing for the Harvest Festival. We loved learning and singing Autumn Days, and it was great fun performing together.

We have had a fantastic first half of the Autumn Term and are very proud of everything we have achieved. We cannot wait to see what exciting learning opportunities the next half term will bring!
