Clwb Coginio

🥣 Clwb Coginio at Penclawdd Primary School

Nurturing skills, confidence and community through the joy of cooking

At Penclawdd Primary School, Clwb Coginio is a much‑loved and meaningful part of our rich curriculum—an opportunity for our children to develop essential life skills, explore food and nutrition, and experience the pride that comes from creating something wonderful for others. Led by Mrs Beynon, the club continues to grow in popularity and impact, inspiring pupils across the school.

🍎 Building Skills for Life

Cooking is so much more than following a recipe. Through Clwb Coginio, children develop confidence, independence, teamwork and problem‑solving skills. From safely preparing ingredients to measuring, mixing and presenting food, pupils gain practical, hands‑on experiences that will stay with them for life.
They also learn about:

  • Healthy eating and nutrition
  • Kitchen safety and hygiene
  • Planning and preparing meals
  • Trying new ingredients and flavours
  • The importance of a healthy breakfast

Breakfast sessions include favourites such as scrambled eggs, waffles and fresh fruit, teaching children how a nutritious start to the day supports learning, concentration and wellbeing.

🥗 Cooking for Each Other

A highlight of the club is the way pupils cook for each other. Children prepare delicious snacks such as smoothies and homemade soups for breaktimes, learning not only how to cook—but how to share, care and serve their school community.

🎂 Cooking for Our Community

Clwb Coginio has strong links beyond the school gates too. Under Mrs Beynon’s guidance, pupils prepare treats for community events including:

  • Over‑65s celebrations
  • Cuppa Club at Penclawdd Community Centre

Children proudly make cakes, sausage rolls, biscuits and other bakes, bringing joy to local residents and strengthening the relationships that make Penclawdd such a special place.

🍕 Year 6 – Taking the Lead

Our Year 6 pupils also take part in an after‑school cooking club, where they plan and prepare full meals for their families. They create dishes such as homemade pizzas and spaghetti bolognese, taking ownership of everything from chopping and cooking to serving and presenting. It’s a wonderful way for our oldest pupils to develop independence as they get ready for secondary school—and a very proud moment for their families.

đź’› A Club That Connects Us

Clwb Coginio is much more than a cooking club. It:

  • Strengthens our curriculum
  • Builds wellbeing and confidence
  • Encourages healthy habits
  • Connects generations
  • Celebrates creativity and teamwork
  • Brings joy to our whole school and wider community

Most importantly, it reflects who we are at Penclawdd Primary School: a community that learns, grows and shares together.
