Literacy - (Please bring literacy tasks into school for me to mark)
Activity 1 - Writing Task
Postcard–
Write a postcard to a family member or friend about a holiday you have been on or places you have visited . You could even make it up and visit anywhere in the world you want!
. You could describe activities that you do, places you visit, what the weather is like
. Remember to use adjectives to describe what the places look like, how you feel
. Remember to include the persons address
Activity 2 - Reading Task
Login to HWB and click on the Britannica School App. Click on the Foundation level and type in a country of your choice. Answer the following questions:
. What countries neighbour the country you are researching?
. What major rivers are in the country?
. What is the highest mountain?
. What language/ languages do they speak in the country?
. What types of food do they eat?
. Are there any key dates in the countries history?
. Does the country celebrate any special traditions?
. Are there any famous people that come from the country?
. Draw a picture of the country's flag.
You can present your information in any way you like.
Activity 3 - Oracy Task
Presentation
. Once you have completed the reading task, use the information to prepare a short presentation about the country. You may want to have some pictures or a Powerpoint to refer to as you're speaking. You can use cue cards to help you remember what to say.
Success criteria:
- Clear, confident speaking voice.
- Expressive tone to show feelings.
- Imaginative, thoughtful answers.
Extension: Record your interview on a phone/tablet (if possible) and share on Seesaw.
Activity 4 - Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar
Part 1: Punctuation
Rewrite these sentences correctly, with capital letters and full stops.
- my name is jake
- we went to the park on saturday
- i saw a dog and a cat
- she lives in london
- mr brown is my teacher
Put full stops in the correct places.
- We played football in the garden Then we had ice cream
- My sister is called Emma She is six years old
- The sun is shining I want to go outside
Part 3: Spelling
One word is spelled correctly. Copy the correct spelling, and then use it in a sentence:
- travel / travil / travell
- pasport / passport / passpaught
- mountin/ mountain/ mouwntin
- tradition / tradishon / traditian
- jography / gographee/ geography
Part 4: Grammar – Choose the Correct Word
1. They (was / were) playing football.
2. He (was / were) very funny.
3. The cats (was / were) under the table.
4. I (was / were) tired after running.
5. You (was / were) really kind to me.
Activity 5 - Handwriting
Read and copy the poem below in your best handwriting. Remember to size your letters correctly, space words evenly and remember to use capital letters and punctuation as you see them in the poem. You could decorate the poem when you finish if you'd like.
