Class Blog 2025 2026

We’ve had an amazing start to the term in Year 3/4!

Literacy

In our Literacy work, we’ve been ‘reading’ the story Here I am by Patti Kim. The book doesn’t have any words in it. We had to use our inference skills to work out what the story is about. We found out that the story is about a little boy who has moved to a new country. He is very unhappy at first but eventually learns to like his new home and makes friends.

We’ve done a lot of work around character study and using suitable adjectives to describe how the characters feel throughout the story. We also wrote free verse poems about the seasons of the year.

Numeracy

We started the term by learning about place value. We are able to identify the value of digits in different numbers, order numbers and count backwards into negative numbers. We have just started to use a written method for addition and subtraction called column method.

Humanities

We have loved our topic, It’s a Small World! At the start of term, we invited visitors into our class from countries all over the world. It was wonderful to find out about what life was like in their countries and even sample some of their foods!

We have also tried food from different countries. We sampled foods from France, India, Italy, Mexico and China. We were so full after it!

For Black History Month, we learnt about Christ Tshiunza, the first African born player to play for Wales. We created a fact file about him. We were amazed when he sent us a personal video with a very interesting fact!

Health and Well-being

We have developed our throwing and catching skills in PE. We have practised under arm throws, chest and bounce passes. We then used these skills to help us play a game which is a mix of handball and netball.

We also took part in World Mental Health Day and enjoyed taking the time for chat around breakfast.

Expressive Arts

So far this term, we have concentrated on the Welsh element of the arts. We studied work by Welsh artist Kyffin Williams and used him as inspiration to create our own artwork of Penclawdd.

We also learnt a traditional Welsh Twmpath.
