Literacy

We have been learning about explanation texts for our literacy work this half-term. We had a lot of fun pretending to be judges on Strictly Come Dancing. We had to give feedback and explain our scores to the dancers.

For our writing, we wrote an explanation about how to travel by plane. We had to find out lots of key vocabulary for this. We used Pie Corbett strategies to help us learn sentence patterns before writing our individual texts.

Numeracy

We’ve been learning about multiplication and division in our numeracy lessons. We’ve practised lots of time tables to help us develop quicker recall. We’ve also learnt strategies to help us wit hour times tables such as arrays and sharing items into equal groups.

Science and Technology

We’ve continued to learn about electricity in our science lessons. We were given circuits that didn’t work. We had to work out the problem and suggest ways of correcting it. We’ve also been learning about online safety and being a good digital citizen in our digital skills lessons.

Health and Wellbeing

Throughout this half-term, we developed our throwing, catching, jumping, balancing and running skills. We loved taking part in the ‘Elf Olympics’ and now feel we would make excellent elves at the North Pole!

Express Arts

We have studied the artist Andy Warhol and created our own Pop Art pictures.

Humanities

The main focus of our topic, It’s a Small Word, has focused on countries around the world and how they compare to where we live. We have carried out housing surveys in Korea, France and Germany and compared them to a housing survey that we did for Penclawdd. We’ve also created some sample menus of foods from different countries. We’ve loved our topic this term and finding out about what it’s like to live in a different country.

The excitement of Christmas arrived in class this half-term! We loved taking part in Elf Day and passing our Elf Tests to gain our bell. We also took part in a Santa Dash. We had so many brilliant costumes! We all enjoyed having Christmas dinner together and celebrating with our friends.
