Spring 2 2026
Shwmae! How is it the end of Spring Term already? Our class have been SO immersed in our Splendid Skies topic. Here’s what we have been up to!
LLC
During Spring 2, we have looked at information texts. Children became real researchers and xplored a range of non-fiction books and digital texts to discover fascinating facts about astronauts, space travel and life beyond Earth. We learned how information texts are organised, using headings, subheadings, captions and diagrams to help us find information quickly. We were particularly interested in how astronauts live in space – from sleeping in zero gravity to eating special space food! We also love our phonics and particularly love a Funky Friday Phonics activity.
Of course, one of the highlights of the term was celebrating World Book Day. The children looked absolutely fantastic and it was wonderful to see their love of reading shine through. We spent the day sharing stories, talking about our favourite books and characters, and taking part in fun reading activities.
We also LOVED sharing our learning with you during our Sharing the Learning assembly. The children are so proud of their work and we were thrilled to share this with you!
In Welsh and French, children have continued to develop their fluency, pushing further with questions like ‘Beth wyt ti’n hoffi chwarae?’ and ‘Beth wyt ti’n hoffi bwyta?’, whilst always embedding our patterns during Slot Drillio and Helpwr Heddiw.

M & N
In Maths and Numeracy, children have been hard at work! Our Year 2 learners have now completed their work on graphs, where they interpreted and created simple pictograms and block diagrams. They also explored 2D and 3D shapes, learning to identify and describe their properties, including sides, vertices and faces. More recently, they have begun their exciting new topic on fractions, where they are starting to understand halves and quarters through equal sharing.
Our Year 1 learners have been building strong foundations in number by working on place value to 50, developing their understanding of tens and ones. They have also explored weight and mass, using practical resources to compare and measure, as well as learning about different types of measurement. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow!

Sci and Tech
This half term, we have been busy exploring and investigating in Science and Technology! The children carried out a fun investigation to find out if all balls bounce, linking this to our learning about gravity. They made predictions, tested different balls and discussed their results like real scientists!
In Technology, we have been developing our computational thinking skills by exploring Scratch. The children enjoyed creating simple programs and learning how to give clear instructions. We also had great fun learning to code and control a Sphero Indi, helping us understand how technology follows commands.
We also explored simple circuits, linking our learning to rockets, where the children investigated how to make a circuit work and discussed how electricity helps things function. We have also had the pleasure of see our eggs hatch once more, helping us think about the life cycle of a chicken!

Health and Wellbeing
This half term, the children have enjoyed developing their physical skills through a range of activities. In PE, they explored football and dance, building their teamwork, coordination and confidence. It has been fantastic to see their enthusiasm and creativity, especially when performing their dance routines!
We have also been learning about healthy lifestyles, focusing on different types of diets and understanding how food helps to keep our bodies strong and energised. Linking to our space topic, the children also investigated what astronauts eat, exploring how food is prepared and consumed in space.

Humanities
This half term, the children have explored a range of topics across Humanities. In RE, they investigated special places of worship, including mosques and churches, and discussed their importance to different communities. They also learned about the Easter story, exploring its meaning and key events.
In Geography, the children extended their space learning by exploring the planets and thinking about their features and positions within our solar system. They showed great curiosity when comparing Earth to other planets.
In History, we looked at the history of space exploration, learning about how humans have travelled into space and how this has changed over time. The children were fascinated by how space travel has developed and the important events that made it possible.
Expressive Arts
Children have explored their creativity through a range of expressive activities. In music, we responded to the Plastic, thinking about its message around saving our planet. The children enjoyed listening, discussing and performing, showing great enthusiasm and expression.
We also designed eye-catching posters to help protect the Earth, sharing important messages about looking after our environment. It was fantastic to see the children’s creativity and passion for making a difference.
In addition, the children explored dance, creating and performing routines with confidence and imagination.

Wishing everyone a happy Easter! See you in Summer Term!
