Summer 2 2025
We are very excited to start our final topic, Pharaohs. We will be finding out all about the curse of Tutankhamun, researching ancient artefacts and putting on our explorer and detective hats with our novel 'The Secrets of a Sun King' by Emma Carroll.
We started our topic with a visit to The Egyptian Centre in Swansea. We had an amazing time with Luke and his team, giving us an informative and hands-on experience. The children were so engaged, they asked some brilliant questions and even got to mummify a Pharaoh, who they called 'Big Larry'. We loved dressing up as ancient Egyptians and acting out the story of Pharaoh Akenaten.
Literacy
We have loved the excitement and thrill of our novel and completed many literacy tasks using the book as a stimulus.
We wrote a letter from Professor Hanawati to Ezra and had a letter delivered to the school from an anonymous archaeologist.
Asking for our help to identify the artefacts found in Tutankhamun's tomb.
Mathematics
Our topic this term was time, and we learnt about the 24-hr clock and completed lots of reasoning and problem-solving using calendars and timetables. We also learnt about line graphs, plotted our own and analysed and interpreted data.
Science/ ICT
This term we have been learning about different animals and about the human timeline , birth, growth and death. We have used Adobe to create a poster of the mummification process.
Expressive Arts
This term we have designed and created Canopic jars using clay and decorated them in true Egyptian style. We created a musical, Egyptian composition using percussion instruments. We performed our Egyptian play for our parents and everyone loved it!
Humanities
We have been historians working with artefacts , facts and heresay to try and establish what exactly happened to Tutankahmun.
We have analysed the artefacts found in his tomb and researched lots of interesting information about the beliefs and way of life of the Egyptians. In Geography we have found out how important the River Nile was and the animals that lived around it.
We had an important visitor in RVE who spoke to us about ethical veganism, we learnt lots of information and asked lots of questions.
