Welcome back to our Year 6 Summer Term Blog!

We can hardly believe we have reached the end of the final half-term of Year 6—and the end of the children's primary school journey. It is a very special time of year, filled with exciting opportunities, memorable celebrations, and plenty of moments to reflect on just how far everyone has come.

And even though it's the final ever half-term, the learning certainly hasn't stopped! This half-term, we continued our exciting topic, "Scream If You Want to Go Faster!", where the children deepened their understanding of the science behind roller coasters, theme parks, and the forces that make them work. Through a range of engaging activities across the curriculum, they continued to develop their curiosity, creativity, and teamwork while making the most of their final weeks together.

Alongside our classroom learning, we also had all the exciting events that make the end of Year 6 so memorable, including transition activities, special celebrations, and opportunities to create lasting memories with friends before moving on to secondary school.

The children have shown incredible resilience, maturity, and determination throughout the year, and they continue to impress us with their positive attitudes and enthusiasm. In this final blog, we share some of the highlights from our final half-term together, celebrate the children's achievements, and capture the wonderful moments that have made the end of their primary school journey so special.

We are incredibly proud of every single child and have loved spending these final weeks together, making them as memorable, rewarding, and fun as possible before they begin their next exciting adventure.

^Literacy

Our writing this half term was inspired by the wonderful animated film Wonder Park. The imaginative setting encouraged the children to develop their descriptive writing and creative ideas before finishing the term by writing some truly fantastic rollercoaster-inspired poems. Their work captured the excitement, speed, twists and emotions of the rides beautifully, showcasing just how much their writing has developed throughout Year 6.

^{Science and Technology}

Our "Scream If You Want to Go Faster!" topic provided the perfect way to round off our Year 6 journey, combining science, technology, creativity and teamwork in a memorable project.

Our half-term adventure began with a fantastic visit to the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, where we experienced the immersive suite. We were transported into the exciting world of theme parks, experiencing all the twists, turns and thrills of a rollercoaster ride! To continue our research, we then travelled to Mumbles to take a ride on the Big Wheel, stopping for a well-earned Joe's Ice Cream on the way. The children also had lots of fun experiencing the upside-down house, which certainly challenged their senses and sparked plenty of laughter!

Inspired by our visit, we set about creating our very own theme park. Everyone suggested imaginative names before voting for our final choice—Fun Parx Amusements. We then designed logos for our new park, with the children democratically voting for their favourite design. To make our theme park appeal to visitors, we carried out surveys to discover the most popular rides before designing and constructing our own incredible attractions. The finished rides demonstrated fantastic creativity, problem-solving and teamwork, and we were delighted to officially open Fun Parx Amusements to our families. To encourage visitors, we also created persuasive advertisements and even used green screen technology to recreate the excitement of riding our rollercoasters, giving parents and carers the chance to join in the fun too!

In Science, we investigated how the size of a parachute canopy affects the rate of descent. The children planned fair tests, made predictions, collected data and evaluated their findings, developing their scientific enquiry skills while linking their learning to the forces involved in theme park rides.

^{Expressive Arts}

In Expressive Arts, the children worked collaboratively to choreograph a rollercoaster-inspired dance to "Good Time" by Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen. Using movement to represent the climbs, drops, twists and excitement of a rollercoaster, they demonstrated excellent creativity, confidence and teamwork. Their final performances were full of energy and enthusiasm and were a wonderful celebration of everything they have achieved.

^{Health and Well-being}

This half term has been an important time to prepare for the exciting move to secondary school. We were fortunate to take part in a series of transition workshops delivered by Platfform and CAMHS, which gave the children the opportunity to discuss any worries, build confidence and develop strategies to help them embrace the changes ahead.

We also enjoyed a fantastic Sports Day, where everyone demonstrated excellent determination, resilience and sportsmanship. It was wonderful to see the children encouraging one another, celebrating each other's successes and giving every event their very best effort.

^{Leavers' Celebrations}

Our final weeks together have been filled with unforgettable memories as we celebrated the end of the children's primary school journey.

One of the highlights was our exciting trip to Heatherton, where the children enjoyed a fantastic day filled with adventure, laughter and plenty of opportunities to challenge themselves. We then followed this with our annual Year 6 Fun Evening in school. From making delicious s'mores and capturing memories in the photo booth to taking on fun challenges and enjoying the legendary Year 6 water fight, it was an evening full of smiles, laughter and friendship.

We ended our time together with our emotional and inspiring Leavers' Assembly. We reflected on their journey through primary school with confidence, humour and pride 'Gladiator style', sharing memories and celebrating everything they have achieved over the past seven years. It was a fitting celebration of an incredible group of young people who have grown into kind, resilient and ambitious individuals.

As we say goodbye to another wonderful Year 6 class, we would like to thank the children for their enthusiasm, determination and endless positivity throughout the year. We are immensely proud of everything they have achieved and know they are more than ready for the exciting adventures that await them in secondary school. We wish every one of them the very best of luck for the future and hope they leave us with many happy memories of their time at primary school.
