Autumn 1 2025

We started our half term with a focus on firing our imagniation - we used the book 'The Train Ride' by June Crebbin to discuss 'what would we see? what would we see?'. We decided to use our own special places to imagine what we would see and focussed on our beautiful Gower beaches - our lovely families visitied the beaches to make memories to help our learners. We of course made our own train - you could buy a ticket for all of 50p! The children used a wealth of expressive arts skills to depict their wonderful illustrations - just like the illustrator Stephen Lambert. During our sessions we looked at verbs and ensured we edited and added verbs to our own audio book 'The Train Ride 2' - you can find a copy of it on 'X' @penclawdd.

We of course continue to be immersed in our daily phonics, handwriting and reading sessions - we made a pledge to always to 'posh' work and to be the best that we could be! We are begining to understand where capital letters belong and we even made 'Capital Letter Crowns' - as capitals really are the 'king' of our names! We enjoy active learning so we have been busy outside in our lovely yard - always building up our phonic knoweldge.

During our Welsh lessons we have looked at the weather, feelings and families - using lots of games and chatter to embed our learning. We had such a fun 'Shwmae' day and we played musical chatter in the hall with all the classes. We nominated our Criw Cymraeg members and we are proud of Sam and Osian who will represent our class in the Criw and who went through an interview process to get the job! Gwych! We have used our Gower beaches for our 'cynefin' and we are understanding where we belong - we are proud of our community. Guess what!? We can blast out a rendition of 'Sosban Bach' and 'Calon Lan' with much gusto! We are proud to be Welsh. We have also been learning all about the Penclawdd Railway in the past - it happened a long, long time ago!
Maths and Numeracy

Inquisitive learners we are! We have explored so much in the world of mathematics it has wow-ed us all! We have been working on place value and we have been finding out just where numbers belong. We love a game of 'Play your cards right!' higher or lower is bellowed out with great predictions -we use this to warm up our mind! We have used cooking as a way of understanding capacity - being accurate in our crumble making was essential! Patterns have been emerging and we cannot wait to build upon this after half term. Addition has had a great place in our learning with us focusing on whole part to understand alongside greater than and less than. It has been a busy half term - always ensuring our number formation is 'posh!'.
Expressive Arts

Oh, how we love Expressive Arts! We have explored a medley of skills this half term. We have created our own train - we of course had to design it first! We used various materials to depict an arable farm - even adding in the seeds with our fingers! We have recorded our own annimation of Penclawdd Railway and we even turned oursleves back in time by using the i pad to take us back to 'sepia or black and white' tones. In music we have been listening attenativley and we have used rhythm, pitch and pace - we have loved a carousel of activities with the Sealions class! We ara so proud of our learning!
Humanities

What a half term it has been! We have been fully immersed in our 'Cynefin' topic and used it to explore where we live. We have looked at Penclawdd Railway and we used Google Maps to see if we think if we could have heard the train if we lived there in the past! We also made our own Arable Farm and we thought about the different landscapes - we looked at Gower arable farms - we seem to have more sheep farms - we think they like the marshland! In addition to this we used the apples from our locality to make delicious crumble! We talked about the seasons and what we have on our doorstep. Whist reading our literature we were able to talk about our local beaches - we shared lovely memories of our special place. During Black History Month we learnt about Rosa Parks - we now understand that people changed the world for our today - we can share the value of kindness - just like Rosa shared. In RVE we have worked with Mr Culpin and we have delved into the big question: How do Hindus celebrate Diwali in Swansea? Our learning journey has included lively discussions, creating vibrant firework displays using chalk on black paper, designing intricate rangoli patterns, decorating hands with beautiful henna art, and immersing ourselves in captivating Diwali stories.
Health and Well Being

Fit, healthy individuals we are! We love our PE sessions with Miss B's class - we work in our 'gardens' to help us grow - we have focused on agility, balance, yoga, colaboration and throwing and catching. We also understand the importance of hydrating and we love getting a 'hydration dojo!'. We have looked also at the 'eat well' plate and we understand what our bodies need to keep us healthy. We had a wonderful mental health day and had a cuppa and a chat - we know we are loved and we know we can talk to all the grown ups. Playing outside is something we do come rain or shine - who doesn't love a muddy puddle! Being outside allows us to grow, explore and expand our curiosity.
