Summer 2 2025

What a fantastic Summer term we’ve had in Year 3/4!

Literacy

At the start of term, we watched the film Brave for our film project. We studied the main character and identified how she changed as a person throughout the film. We then wrote a newspaper report about the archery contest.

Later in the term, we learnt how to write a discussion text. We wanted to discuss whether or not the Romans should let the Celts stay in Britain. We found out about lots of good things that the Romans did for the Celts, but also that they did lots of bad things. Do you think the Celts should have let the Romans stay?

Numeracy

We’ve completed loads of work in our Maths this term. We’ve learnt about fractions, decimals, mass, capacity, money, time, graphs and charts, shapes and angles! We’ve been very busy!

Topic- The Celts

We’ve loved learning about the Celts. In May, we went to St. Fagans to see a Celtic roundhouse. We learnt a lot about how the houses were made. We also learnt how the Celts cooked and the sort of things they ate. Also in May, we walked to the site of an ancient hillfort above Penclawdd called Pen y Gae. The hillfort was in a great position as it was high up on a hill. This allowed the Celts to see enemies sailing down the estuary. The hill would also tire enemies out before they reached the hillfort.

Expressive Arts

This term, we linked our Expressive Arts work to our topic. We created some self portraits of what we may have looked like as Celts. We also composed and performed our own Celtic battle music. We enjoyed performing a class assembly for our grown ups.

Health and Well-being

We have loved taking part in various summer games and athletics this term. We also took part in Sports Day to gain points for our houses.

Science and Technology

We’ve studied rock and fossils this term. We enjoyed finding out about different types of rocks and how fossils are formed. We also collected soil samples and studied them. We were able to identify which soils would be the best for growing plants.

We’ve had an amazing year in Year 3/4.
