Summer 2025

Another year comes to an end!

Well, we have had such a fabulous year and have had so many amazing experiences and have learnt so much! This Summer term, we began our topic, 'Carnival', with a parent and children carnival engage event - the weather was kind and everyone had fun; taking part in mask making, Zumba dancing, Samba drumming and carnival games - the atmosphere was electric! This was a great kick-start to our topic and we continued to learn about different celebrations, including the Rio da Vida Carnival in Brazil. We became intrigued with Brazil and learnt where it is in the world, what makes it special and through our literacy work on persuasive writing, we were able to produce some fantastic brochures to tell people what Brazil has to offer and to persuade them to visit this beautiful country one day!

Through this topic, we have explored our creative, expressive arts and design skills, making our very own carnival floats out of cardboard. To celebrate the end of this topic, we had our own carnival parade around the school, showing off our masterpieces!

Please enjoy the pictures below, that share our learning with you, including what we have been up to in other areas of learning this term!

Maths and Numeracy - We have been developing our measuring skills - we have learnt to tell the time and how to measure length, mass, capacity and temperature! We have also been learning about fractions. We used the outdoors to explore symmetry and created some symmetrical butterflies.

Health and Well-being - We competed in our annual Sports Day and enjoyed an array of activities during Mental Health Week.

Science and Technology- We have learnt about the different parts and functions of a plant. We have been busy planting in our garden area and look after and care for all the fruit, vegetables and flowers - we are hoping to taste some soon! We have investigated what seeds need to grow....soil, water and warmth!

We also experimented with cooking some Brazilian Bread - delicious! 😋

We have used the Merlin Bird identifier app, to listen to and identify the birds in our local area.

Humanities -
We researched Brazil and compared the climate with our climate and produced these fabulous brochures!

We also took a walk up the hill to 'The Bench', during Local Community History month, to compare the view and landscape to a picture taken from the same spot 125 years ago!

Literacy, Language and communication.

From persuasive writing, using film to inspire curiosity, to our daily phonics and weekly spelling and grammar sessions; we have become ambitious, capable, confident and capable learners!
