💚 Wear It Green Day – World Mental Health Week (Monday 11th May)

We were proud to take part in World Mental Health Week by celebrating “Wear It Green Day”, with our school coming together to support this year’s theme of “Action.”

Our Senedd Minister for Health and Sport, Pippa, led the day with great enthusiasm, encouraging everyone to think about the small positive steps we can take to look after our mental health and wellbeing.

It was wonderful to see the school filled with green as pupils and staff showed their support. Throughout the day, children took part in a wide range of activities designed to promote wellbeing, including mindfulness colouring, outdoor exploration, teamwork challenges and acts of kindness. There was a real focus on simple, meaningful actions that can make a difference to how we feel each day.

The children embraced the opportunity to talk about their feelings, support one another and reflect on what helps them to stay happy and healthy. It was a positive and uplifting day that reminded us all how important it is to look after our minds as well as our bodies.

A big well done to Pippa for organising such a thoughtful and impactful day for our school community. 💚

🌿 Penc Polar Bears – National Botanical Gardens Visit

Our Penc Polar Bears enjoyed a fantastic day at the National Botanical Gardens, taking part in a series of engaging, hands‑on workshops that brought their learning to life.

Through the “Allotments” workshop, pupils explored how to design and care for an allotment, learning about what to grow and the importance of companion planting. In “Sowing and Growing,” they discovered the different types of seeds, what plants need to thrive, and even planted their own seeds to bring back to school—a wonderful way to continue their learning journey.

The day also included a fascinating session on the “Life Cycle of a Flowering Plant,” where pupils learned about pollination, pollinators, fertilisation and seed production.

It was a rich, memorable experience that deepened their understanding of the natural world and encouraged curiosity, responsibility and care for our environment.

🎭 Penc Starfish – Theatre Visit to Cardiff

Our Penc Starfish class had a truly memorable trip to Cardiff’s New Theatre to watch The Boy at the Back of the Class, bringing to life the story they had enjoyed earlier in the year.

The children were captivated from start to finish, especially enjoying the humour and the clever performances of adult actors portraying children. Seeing the story unfold on stage helped deepen their understanding and made the experience even more powerful.

The performance shared important messages about friendship, kindness, empathy and acceptance, leaving the children with plenty to reflect on and discuss afterwards.

It was a brilliant way to end a busy and successful half term, and we are extremely grateful to the Arts Council of Wales for providing funding to make this opportunity possible.

❤️ A Little Love from Our Penclawdd Community ❤️

💜 Foster Wales School Champions Initiative

We were delighted to attend and pledge our support to the launch of the Foster Wales School Champions initiative across Swansea and Neath Port Talbot.

This important partnership aims to strengthen the connection between schools and local fostering services by raising awareness within our communities. By sharing information and encouraging conversations, the initiative helps to find more local foster homes, enabling children to remain close to their schools, friends and support networks.

It also plays a vital role in ensuring that care-experienced children and young people feel supported, understood and able to thrive, both in school and beyond.

At Penclawdd Primary School, we are proud to be part of this meaningful work and look forward to supporting this initiative as part of our commitment to care, inclusion and community.

🏉 Gower Inter School Rugby Tournament – A Fantastic Return!

Our Year 5 and Year 6 mixed rugby team were proud to take part in the Gower Neighbourhood Policing Team’s Inter School Rugby Tournament, held at Dunvant RFC.

This year’s event was particularly special, as it marked the revival of the tournament for the first time since 2019. After being paused due to Covid, it was wonderful to see this much‑loved event return, bringing together schools from across the Gower community. Penclawdd has proudly been part of this tournament since it began in 2009, alongside 16 other primary schools.

The event was brilliantly organised and supported by the Gower Neighbourhood Policing Team, with valued support from the Welsh Rugby Union and the Ospreys—making it a fantastic experience for all involved.

Our pupils were outstanding throughout, showing excellent teamwork, determination, sportsmanship and respect. They represented Penclawdd Primary School with pride and should be very proud of themselves.

A huge thank you to Jake and Joseph’s dad for volunteering their time to coach the team, and to Mrs Thomas for her support on the day. We are also incredibly grateful to all of our parents and families who came along to cheer the team on—it makes such a difference.

Well done to all involved—a fantastic day celebrating sport, teamwork and community spirit. 🏉👏

🏃‍♂️ NGP Cluster Cross Country Tournament – Race 2

We were proud to host the NGP Cross Country Tournament (Race 2) at the Elba, welcoming pupils from across our cluster for a fantastic afternoon of sport and teamwork. Thanks to Mrs Percival for leading and organising this.

All of our athletes gave their very best, showing determination, resilience and excellent sporting behaviour throughout every race. We are incredibly proud of how they represented our school-both in their performances and their encouragement of others.

A special congratulations to PE, who achieved an outstanding 1st place in the girls’ race-a brilliant achievement and thoroughly deserved!

A huge thank you to Mrs Davies and Mrs Thomas for organising a dedicated lunchtime training club, which has supported our pupils to develop their skills and confidence in the lead up to the event.

Well done to everyone involved-it was a wonderful celebration of athletics across our cluster schools! 🏅👏
